The Best American Auto Shows

The Best American Auto Shows

The auto show. Where the big dogs go to show off and the public comes to salivate over the new lineups. From the Motor City to the Vegas Strip, these auto shows pull back the curtains on new innovations while bringing the industry and public together. Concept cars, new models, interactive experiences, modded cars, and much more. It’s an auto enthusiasts dream.

We’re already well into 2018’s auto show circuit, but there’s still more to come this year and next. Here’s a rundown of the biggest and most interesting so you can get your tickets ahead of time.

The Big Industry Events

There are shows all across the land, but these are - arguably - the most important ones to attend. You’ll have to wait until November for this circuit to start again, but it’s a wild few months after that.

NAIAS aka the Detroit Auto Show: The North American International Auto Show takes place in the heartland of the auto industry as we know it: Detroit. Although the Motor City has fallen from grace since the good ol’ days, its history and focus on the future makes it the perfect hub. Just about every car in all the major brands line-ups is going to be here. It brings not only pretty cars and fans together, but industry insiders like manufacturers, tech companies, and government organizations too. This is where things get done.
When: January 14th - 27th, 2019

Chicago International Auto Show: The largest auto show in North America with a focus on the consumer. Huge turnout and a great place to browse all the new cars so you can decide which one to buy without all that car dealership pressure. Although Detroit isn’t far, Chicago’s show holds its own.
When: Feb. 9th - 18th, 2019

When: Feb. 9th - 18th, 2019

New York International Auto Show: Technically, the very first North American auto show. It’s the biggest one on the East Coast. It has all the concept cars and industry interaction you could want. Ironically, it takes place in the city where most people don’t even know how to drive. Much love, NYC.
When Apr. 19th - Apr. 28th, 2019

LA Auto Show: A long-held event complete with celebrity sightings and interesting exhibits like Galpin’s Hall of Customs. They’ve done multiple Star Wars & Nissan crossovers because why not? It’s the most Hollywood show and for good reasons. If you’re on the West Coast you’re gonna want to check this one out. If you’re in the industry, don’t forget to drive 3 hours to Vegas for SEMA too.
When: Nov. 30th - Dec. 9th, 2018. That’s right, you didn’t miss this one yet.

SEMA: Another major industry event; in fact, it’s trade-only which means if you don’t work in the auto industry, you ain’t gettin’ in. That makes it a great place to get down to business without the hordes of car shoppers. Network, show your stuff, figure out the competition, just get to work.
When: Oct. 30th - Nov. 2nd, 2018. You didn’t miss this one either.

The Classic Car Shows

Vintage car lovers rejoice, it’s not all about the new batch. There are plenty of unique classic car showcases in the US of A too.

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance: French for “competition of elegance”, it’s where you’ll find the richest auto fanatics and rarest vehicles. We’re taking cars in the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars, restored and submitted for judging. There’s also vintage racing, motorcycles, auctions, and more. It’s the best of the best.
When: Aug. 26th, 2018.

Woodward Dream Cruise: Tens of thousands of cars fill Woodward Avenue in Detroit. In fact, it’s the largest one-day automotive event in the world! 40,000+ cars and 1.5 million people. All for a SINGLE DAY! Traffic must be hell.

When: Aug. 18th, 2018

The Texas Hoedown: The Hoedown and Concours d’Elegance may both share a love of classic cars, but their attitudes are the complete opposite. The Hoedown gets down with classic hot rods, choppers, roller derby, a pin-up girl contest, cold beer and more. Getting a little dirty is a good thing.

When: TBD 2019. Probably March.
